To help each child to grow socially, emotionally, physically, cognitively, and spiritually; to equip them with positive socialization skills, such as sharing, getting along with others, following directions, and appropriate independence – skills essential for entering kindergarten and for life in general.
To be an exceptional developmentally-appropriate preschool, one that encourages lifelong learning in a caring, Christian environment.
Redeemer Lutheran Preschool has been serving the Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C., region since 1962, serving an educational mission of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer.
Our classes are tailored for children from 2½ to 5 years of age. We accept students from a wide variety of backgrounds, regardless of religious preference, race or ethnic background. Each class has a dedicated lead teacher and an assistant. This team approach is the basis of each classroom community.
With each class, we emphasize the life skills children need.
- Attachment – getting along with an adult for nurturing and safety
- Belonging – as a member of a group, especially to the family
- Self-Regulation – managing emotions
- Collaboration – working with others, problem solving and conflict resolution
- Contribution – becoming eager to learn and to help others
- Adaptability – learning how rules can change with the situation
Redeemer Lutheran Preschool’s teaching philosophy and classroom curriculum are derived from several highly regarded sources.

Children learn about their world through play – playing is how our little ones go to work. Play builds social, problem solving and language skills, and it reduces tension. Our program offers a balance of environments, from structured to unstructured, in large groups, small groups and as individuals. Exploration is key, and your child’s natural creativity and curiosity are encouraged throughout the school day.
The teacher is always present and engaged in encouraging, extending and supporting your child’s natural desire to learn. In addition, your child learns responsibility and cooperation by performing classroom tasks, while exploring their spiritual world through learning respect for others, weekly Bible lessons, monthly story times, holiday celebrations and the giving of thanks before each day’s snack.
The campus of Redeemer Lutheran Church offers your preschooler a host of other healthy and wholesome activities, such as a fully equipped fenced playground and a natural open space of stumps, rocks and sand, all closely supervised.
Our Thoughts on Guidance and Discipline
Our teachers set simple, clear, consistent limits while developing nurturing relationships with all our children. We encourage children to develop self-control and autonomy, solve problems, manage feelings and learn the benefits of cooperative social behavior.
Our Safety and Security Measures
There is nothing more important than assuring the safety and security of your child. For peace of mind, our building is equipped with a controlled-access security system, plus cameras monitoring exterior classroom windows.
